At the August 26 press briefing, Peoria City/County Health Department Administrator Monica Hendrickson referenced a recently distributed joint letter from community health organizations reinforcing the importance of mask wearing and giving guidance to all health care providers for children in their networks.
Signatories of the letter included:
- UnityPoint Health
- OSF HealthCare
- University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria

- Peoria City/County Health Department
The letter communicated best practices from the American Academy of Pediatrics, including the importance of mask wearing by children with chronic respiratory conditions and advice on how to assist children with anxiety or sensory issues learn to mask. It also outlined what a qualified provider must include on any exemptions that are written.
“It comes back to the safety of the students and staff in an in-person learning environment,” stated Administrator Hendrickson.
